A few kites and sails look to have gotten some time on water on Lake O. which was whipped into a pretty wicked boil thanks to twenty four hours of NW winds.  Windsurfers at a kite or two at Durand, plus a few more kites at Montana.

I got the call early from Scott that we should give it a go before the temps got much colder.  The wind was in the upper 20’s gusting mid 30’s as we rigged.  Scott went with a 4.7 and 85L board and was the first on the water.  Keith Schneller was on had as well with a similar sized sail and a new to him Nelson Custom board from Maui (previously a team riders).

Considerable shore break greeted all of us at Durand with a bunch of North in the wind.  Scotty managed to punch through on his first go, and got ripping among the rolling mountains on the outside.  The graph shows that the wind lulled a bit as Keith hit the water to get his new board wet, and being a great sailor with many years, he jibed quick on the inside as he schlogged in the bitter cold as to get his first rides another day.

I managed to get out on my first go as well and while warm in my Kokatat, my wrists (under full mitts) were giving me dull pain and indicated it was to be a short session.  It was big everywhere, and likely a 4.2 would have been a more ideal sail choice fore me.  I managed a decent jibe on the inside and headed back out for another go round, but with memories of locked up wrists/hands keeping me from water starting at Webster a few years back I didn’t push my luck and also called it a session.

On my way home I stopped and got some pics of a kiter on the eastern expanses of Durand, and then three kites riding big waves at Montana.

Here’s a few, more to follow:
