The geriatric gang tore up the pond in a big blow in summer like temps of 75 degrees! We left our wheelchairs, canes and crutches on the shore and proceeded to tear the place DOWN! Art, Gary, Mark and I got in a joint busting muscle aching ass kicking session in 30 mph winds. Mark, laughed as he tried to assess the wind strength on his wind meter, “It doesn’t read that high!”, topping out at 35mph. I rigged four different sail sizes trying to catch up with the ever increasing wind strength. A 6.3, 5.3, 4.7 and 4.2 progression ended when I didn’t have any smaller sails to rig! Although I can only attest to my own scary shit because you don’t have time to pay attention to anyone else but that patch of frothing water right in front of you; numerous gusts had my 85 liter board tail walking across the tops of the waves, sometimes after yet another blown jibe you found yourself tightly clenching your finger around the boom with your head down waiting for the gale overhead to subside. After a thorough pounding with my smallest sail I called in quits and joined the rest of the crew on shore only to watch Art rig another sail and show us how its done on his 3.7 sail and his 78 liter Goya. He was the last one off the water! Mark was smoking on his setup and feeling pretty good after a two year hiatus from windsurfing and I know Gary was wishing he hadn’t gotten rid of that extra ballast. Good Easter Funday was had by all and no eggs were broken….oh except for that hole in Marks board! How’d that happen?
