And so the disappointing Spring seems to be ending as we approach the Summer Solstice, and we enter a more summer-like pattern. High pressure system this weekend will deliver L&V kinds of wind, but may set up a couple of kinds of thermals to keep in mind:
1) Big Lake afternoon thermals on sunny days, and
2) Seneca Lake AM “Inverse” thermal on cool summer nights with a clear sky and S winds.
These are both very existential and mainly for those who are in the local area, or those who take a chance and show up (bring alternative toys). Good luck (which is a strong element in these situations).
The extreme ends of our area (Erie, St. Lawrence Seaway) may have more luck, but the rest of us need to bring a paddle or look for land sports this weekend. Possible AM thermal on Seneca. This is early for this phenomenon to kick-in, but as warm as this year has been it might be happening.
I’m going for a bike ride on Sat, and to Cook’s Forest (PA) on Sunday. In other words, taking a pass on wind sports…
