Definitely mid-summer conditions now. So be ready for afternoon thermals on sunny days. Coming back from Indiana on Tuesday, seemed to be having a mild thermal effect in Erie, PA as I went through. Tempting to go see the lake, but as it is a 12 hour drive, I didn’t go look. But the trees along the highway were blowing.

Saturday – only real bet and probably the best day of the weekend is Erie (W @ 15-20). Too bad I’m dog-tending for a friend, or I’d likely go…

Sunday – calling for N shore of Big O to be NW @ 15-20, turning easterly and dying to 10. So it depends on timing. Could be a good day if the shift holds off until late in the day.

Finger Lakes – NWS is calling for borderline conditions on Sunday afternoon (NW to NNW @ 10-11). On Cayuga, the walls of bluffs at the S end of the lake will likely give a 5 kt boost, so it could end up a moderate wind day…could even build to strong if it’s sunny b/c this condition often creates afternoon thermal effects when the wind is NNW to NE. Best spots would be Taughannock Falls and Myers ($3 for non-residents of Lansing); sailable but very swirly winds at East Shore (Cornell’s Merrill Sailing Center) – windsurfers, and Stewart Park – kiters.

      Good luck!
