Wow! This is the earliest in August in which I recall getting a present from the Wind Gods.

Lovely day today for a few of us who got to Seneca before mid-afternoon. Was it classic gnarly Seneca going off? No, but I would say that today is the kind of day that launched the windsurfing boom of the 80s – 90ºF, sunny, wind 14-18 in solid 7.0, warm water, no neoprene needed, not too windy for the family. This is the existential summer bliss that created our wind sports (well, sailors have been reveling in it for eons). Yes, it gets more radical, more amazing, more intense, more adrenaline driven, but in a very real sense today was THE stuff of windsurfing. If you missed Windydoug’s post of last Saturday, THAT’S what I’m talkin’ bout. The good news…there’s more of it coming!!!

Enjoyed seeing Kevin out enjoying himself, and Brad giving lessons to share the joy. His students were stoked.

      SAT:

Best call – W winds 15-20 on the Big O, haven’t sailed in the Rochester area, but for my money I’d probably head to Fair Haven or points east’ alternatively, up NW of Rochester where the exposure to W winds looks good.

Erie probably will go off…the Fx’s have been faltering but those days of 6.5-7.0 at Beach 10 on Presque Isle are emblazoned in my mind. Might be more 7.5-ish, though, so I’d rely on afternoon thermals which should kick-in around 4 PM.

If you can’t get up there, the FLX should see WNW in the 10-15 range…will be more gusty of course.

      SUN:

More iffy, the Fx’s are diminishing, but winds shifting to NW on the Big O…I’d generally aim for the afternoon thermals but rely on your local knowledge.

FLX may look good for Sunday afternoon, as the regional thermals are likely to kick in and give another sunny 10-15 day…seems probable but with falling Fx’s it may disappoint. But then again, it won’t if you bring a longboard…
