Great day catching up with the wind and friends at Hamburg. The stoke from the local Buff group is palpable. And in addition to supporting the snack shack at the beach (they advocated for not ticketing us) by chowing hot dogs, we discoverer another local gem in Tacos and more.
Sailing first. I hadn’t been to Hamburg in a couple years, and couple that together with the fact that I had not (planing) windsurfed in three weeks and the impending doom of work/school starting again soon…no brainer. Joe, Art, Gary and I headed around noon. I sent a Groupme text…wish more folks would tune back in to this. We arrived to a mixed variety of sail sizes and reports that the wind had lulled a bit. We stood around, laughed a bit, watched. I needed to sail so wind dummy time it was. I rigged up my new 6.5 and 115L at hit the sizable shore pound. Yup, I made it happened…instantly overpowered on my bigger set up but made it work for a while as it was still fun, and boosting floaty jumps on the big outside swell was easy. This was right around 3 p.m., and if you look at the Windsurf meter you’ll see it build RIGHT THERE.
The Buffalo crew just kept attacking. Eric and Lisa, Joe, and Debbie, Troy, Craig, and Mark. Some great kiters as well…Matt maybe? Troy spent his whole day ripping on a 5.6 Sailworks Hucker…….that guys’s a Honey Badger…..tough SOB. Troy is so tough, he busted his harness spreader bar in half while sailing.
Art was steady the whole day on his 5.3 with a board change up, and Joe was polished and content on his 4.8 and floaty board, just riding swell and turning all day. Gary got himself back in the harness after some time off with a bum shoulder and that was good to see.
I rigged down to a flattened out 5.8 and my 95L and just tried to get comfortable in conditions that I had not really ridden in all season long…I’m sore today.
Art, Joe and I hiked up to the road and dined on great Tacos just across from the launch at Tacos and More. Great food, great prices, plus subs and and pizza too. The place certainly has an atmosphere, and you better be ready to order before you order. We’ll go back for sure.
Members of the Rochester gang that couldn’t be there were missed…make the trip when you can.
My camera battery was dead, or I would have some shots of the action.

Darn! I missed all the action. I was there around 11;30am and was checking the beach out for the first time. I was dropping my board off at Curtis sports for a crunched nose repair so I wandered down to have a look. I was surprised no one was there as it was blowing well with formidable shore break indeed. I was hoping to see how you pro’s do it.
By the way, big thanks to Gary and..Scott ? a few weeks back at Long pond who tried to help me out with my blown out, mast cap strap. Gary suggested Quantum sails in Irondequoit, the guy did a box stitch on it which hopefully will outlast the sail. I hope this beginner is done breaking stuff for a while.

No kidding Rich!
Sorry to hear about some busted stuff…..we all deal with it from time to time.
I was out of town on that Long Pond day, but got a text from Scott that 8 windsurfers were on the Pond. He seemed stoked.
Glad you are in the mix.
