Another November surprise for us windsurfers! Pre-frontal southerly winds ramped up big time at Long Pond. And the turn out for what is probably the last warm sailing session was equally impressive.
The area temperatures were in the mid sixties and the winds were forecasted to be gusty and into the thirties. And in fact that’s pretty much what we got!
Eric was the first on the water rigging a 4.7 and was ripping up the pond nicely. I was second and thought the winds looked stronger so I rigged a 4.2 and popped it into my recently repaired Goya 85 liter board. Although this was quite comfortable in the gusts, the lulls made it too much work and not enough fun so I quickly grabbed my 110 Fanatic Cross with a svelte girth of 62cm which did the trick. Way more fun time and less fatigue.
The gang all showed up shortly and sailed 3.8’s to 4.2’s. Corey was last to the party having put in a full day of work and promptly rigged a 4.2 as I re-rigged up to a 4.7. I figured well if Eric can ride a 4.7 then I can, and the little voice in my head told me to.
Well the wind ramped up even bigger and I got a bit less comfortable but road the wind like it was never gonna happen again! Gary, Ted, Joe,Eric and I left wind on the water after an exhausting session but Corey sailed off into the sunset still ripping on his 4.2 as the sun went down and the beer got warmer and warmer or was it colder and colder…..I left one on his bumper and headed home to nurse sore muscles and re-hydrate with Genny’s secret NEIPA called Genny Cream Ale Dry Hopped!
Yes I know…another windsurfing beer pairing! Choose carefully and don’t forget your mask while sailing, your face will be much warmer!

Thanks for sharing! Love hearing about it. We had winds of about 30mph on Lake Erie until about 3pm. I got to ride a 3.7m on my 85 in the harbor. Lisa showed up around 4pm. The winds dropped, but she got a nice foil session until sunset.
