Thursday/Friday Forecast:
Nice system coming giving us a couple days of good wind potential in WNY. By Thursday morning the low pressure from the west moves across the GLR. With it comes a cold front and a tasty pressure gradient. The cold front comes through around 8am Thursday, and WSW wind follows it for much of the day.
Look for WSW wind on the east end of Lake Erie 20-30mph. The peak appears to be around 1-3pm, but there will likely be wind much of the day. There may be some rain before sunrise, but should be mostly rain free after that with air temps falling.
On Friday air temps will be much cooler, direction will veer to mostly W or WNW, and magnitude may favor Lake Ontario. The morning looks to have more wind in store so far, but keep an eye on it as it is still 2 days away.
Lake Erie water temp is near record highs and could possibly break the record in the next couple days.

Thanks for this Eric!
I know some guys have been making Hamburg plans based on your forecast. I’m hoping for a Long Pond session after work.

This was a GREAT system! Thursday started out around 20-25mph in Buffalo….UNTIL…..airs temps cooled off just a little, and then around noon winds ramped up to 35+mph and lasted all day. I went from 4.7m to 3.7m to 3.3m all in a time span of about 15minutes (as I had them all rigged ahead of time and ready to go). Spent nearly the whole day on 3.3m and 76 liter board. Lisa showed up around 4pm and took the 3.3m that I was using with an 85 liter board and ROCKED until sunset, packing up with little daylight left. She claims it was her BEST SESSION EVER!!! She made jibes like never before. I also had the best jibes of my sailing career. Interesting thing is that we both read an article on jibing by Peter Hart a week ago. The main point we walked away with was when you place your rear foot across the board to jibe make sure the heel of that foot is almost touching that back foot strap. Yes, that far back! It was incredible. It allowed the board to stay on plane much easier and faster, there was incredibly more control over every aspect of the jibe, and there was more room for the other foot when switching feet. I highly suggest trying it.
On Friday morning I hit Lake Ontario where it was still blowing well over 30mph. Scored a beautiful session with lots of fall colors, some sunshine, and a great view of Toronto. 3.7m and 85 liter board. I was pretty tired from the day before, so it was a shorter session. Great couple of days! Hope you all got it.
