Hi Mark,
Welcome to the forum!
Boot wise I have a pair of Xcel booties that are 5mm thick. I like them a lot. I have blown through a couple other brands but these have really held up. They have a durable sole that is still thin enough for good feel, and all seems are glued inside and out. They also have nice pul loops that are super helpful.
For my hands I have used Dakine mitts for years. Hands are tough. Wrists and forearms get tired. I have tried gloves once but felt I tired even more quick because of the thickness of the neoprene. Nitrile paint/work gloves are good in spring when the air is warm but water is cold. They keep the wind chill off.
