What a day on Seneca. The big finger lake has a tendency to do this in October. This, being way exceeding the forecast. A bunch of the guys knew it, and kites and sails were out in force on a beauty day. Freaky G Moore called it spot on with his Finger Lakes Fx, and as the meter started to climb it became apparent that I should be changing my…[Read more]

Just checking back in on this post.
One season of windsurfing is more or less done, and I have ridden this board 5 times and (saying a prayer) everything still seems to be doing pretty well.
See you on the water!

As I read this it looks like this Saturday forecast may be playing out. Seneca had some early, likely for the kites and now maybe Ontario has turned on with a freakish change to 25 wnw 10:45 a.m.. I’ll have to check back after the day to see how close the Freaky FX was.

Thanks for the awesome info Frank!
Dan Scorza has mentioned heading to Oneida in the past. I remember a time 6-8 years ago when a group was talking about doing this but the wind didn’t seem to materialize.
30-40 windsurfers on the water…….what a sight. Sounds like you had some great days last week….I had none.

That’s good of you Rich! Welcome toe the sport, and thanks for taking a chance and posting on the forum. You are in a bit of a no mans land out there, although last week I was eyeing Olcott and remembering when my family used to use the parkway and then route 18 to get to the Lewiston/Queenston bridge.
I’d say to give Long Pond in Greece a g…[Read more]

Starting this post as a result of a good question on the Groupme App.
We are getting some surprisingly solid East wind, and that hardly ever happens.
I actually have no experience on an East as a result, but have heard good things about these places.

Looked like an incredible day. Congrats to the folks that got to ride it. I thought of an after work run to Seneca or Canandaigua, but had gotten the third in a series of three synthetic lubricants (Orthovisc) in my knee that morning and was advised to take it easy for the day. The shots seem to be working a bit, so my eye is on the wi…[Read more]

Bryan Rutledge, a kite boarder from Syracuse sent a Groupme message to the crew that following Saturday’s session there that he was not feeling well. Symptoms included a sour stomach, sweats, and a day later a sore throat. Mike Allen experienced similar symptoms, following his late afternoon session, as did Doug C. His symptoms may have been a…[Read more]

What a varied day. I got some good riding in (Tod Ryan early morning Groupme…thank you) early, and then the wind pulled way back so that my 5.2 and small board eventually was a 5.8 big board and then 7.5 big board. By mid afternoon most folks had called it a day and I was doing the same when the wind came roaring back. A patient Mike Allen got…[Read more]

Guys like Gary and Bill have been a part of this great event in the past, so they are better suited to talk about it, but I’ve heard this is a great event. Ken Altfather and his crew are stoked to get people on the water, and what kiter and windsurfer can’t get down with that!?

I thought I was gonna be out of luck for getting on the water today, but when Seneca turned on early (and J GO groupme’d conditions) I jumped on a quick session before I had to be home mid afternoon.
Since it was a SE wind I opted for the newly and exceptionally well done renovated launch at the Geneva Visitors Center/Castle Creek. The fences…[Read more]

Pretty exciting stuff here. Still baby steps, but steady movement forward none the less.
So over the past three years, my son Owen, and Joe’s grandson Vance have been windsurfing a handful of times in the shallows of Canandaigua Lake together. The days there normally involve plenty of candy and sweets, and a ton of good laughing. Oh, and th…[Read more]
