I had caught this vid by Robby, but had not dug deeper on why his foil is so different. Thanks for the enlightenment. I bookmarked it in my brain in case I ever get a shot on one of these. Maybe let Ken Altfather at Baycreak know that the Naish set up is curiously different and perhaps more atrtractive?
Thanks for posting it Freaky G. May…[Read more]

Amazing…..not for the wind, but for all the windsurfers that were out. Nine. Nine windsurfers and one kite in the classic Long Pond nuking schlogging conditions. The weather was beautiful, the sunshine brilliant in the mid morning.
Isaac started things off with an early Groupme message, and then in the hour or so after that folks began hi…[Read more]

Here’s a little vid I just put together from back in June. It was my first wind sport filming adventure. A few more coming down the line soon. I had to keep my distance as the altitude reading isn’t precise on the drone. I’m figuring out angles and different vantage points etc…
I know the red RRD kite is Eric M. from Buffalo, but I’m not…[Read more]

Yeah Geoff, that’s the reward for making it to the end. My son doesn’t ever get to see me fall, he liked it.

Hey Rich,
Thanks! I used a GoPro helmet mount for most of the video, but I think you are wondering about maybe the mast mount and boom mount that you can see me in while I am windsurfing. For that I used a Flymount. It is very easy to use and is very tough. Not cheap but it is worth it if you ask me!

This video is up on the Home Page, but I am also placing it here. I sat on some good footage of Seneca Lake kiting and windsurfing for too long and almost a year after the last recording I finally editted it to create this video:
I could really go for some days like this!

Wow!
Kel, I just looked up La Familia and that place is the nuts! I can’t make it, back to school, but the rest of the crew should check it out.

Thanks for the post. Hope you get tons of wind, but not the kind that spins counter clockwise.

This is really cool Mark (aka borntoloop)! A few uf us have heard rumblings under the surface about wind foils coming to town. Gary, and Jason seem to also be thinking of getting us a chance. Hat off to you for taking the chance on it…boy it ain’t cheap! The whole thing has not looked that interesting to me, but I feel like that is cha…[Read more]

No kidding Rich!
Sorry to hear about some busted stuff…..we all deal with it from time to time.
I was out of town on that Long Pond day, but got a text from Scott that 8 windsurfers were on the Pond. He seemed stoked.
Glad you are in the mix.

Great day catching up with the wind and friends at Hamburg. The stoke from the local Buff group is palpable. And in addition to supporting the snack shack at the beach (they advocated for not ticketing us) by chowing hot dogs, we discoverer another local gem in Tacos and more.
Sailing first. I hadn’t been to Hamburg in a couple years, and co…[Read more]

Hey Corey,
I don’t have an NP boom, but maybe I can help figure it out a bit.
I believe that the 4 matching holes/ cut outs are to be able to rig a sail/boom with an on the fly adjustable outhaul. They make a round insert that goes into the clew grommet and you could loop around that.
I’m going to assume that your rope starts in the bottom…[Read more]

Word on the beach is that Baycreek Paddle Center may be bringing in a couple demo Starboard Windfoils soon thanks to the work of a well connected local. I also heard the other day that a couple of the Foil Kiters are working on same from Slingshot.
It is seeming more and more attractive to me as I see more video of it. The riding style looks l…[Read more]

Also, I managed to get my first footage with my drone on Sunday. It is fairly benign footage, as I was ultra cautious with keeping my distance from the kites. I never really let the drone below 90ft, once dipping to 70ish when I knew I was upwind enough be safe.
Here’s a still of the rider I got the most footage out of, I’m not sure he even k…[Read more]

Meh.
It struggled to get to a level that I could plane on my 7.5 all day. The kites looked to get the best of the warming water and sunshine with a bunch of kites out from the park as well as the visitors center. I arrived and parked next to Eric and Lisa from B’lo who had stayed the night at the Ramada to ride Seneca all day. Eric got so…[Read more]

While my windsurfing day wasn’t spectacular yesterday (the kites won the day for sure), it sure was important that we were all on Seneca Lake. A local reporter was interviewing folks regarding the new plan to “transform the welcome center into an FLX hub”.
The video clip played on the Monday morning news, and prominently featured wind sports in…[Read more]

Thanks for the how-to Geoff. I actually got 9’s from the Russian judge on a couple of launches, but I may have colluded with them to earn those marks. Scott and Corey-
I think I heard that Rick gave Woodlawn a shot on his windsurfer, I’m curious to know more. Sounds like the wind may have died on him, but the waves look sweet in all the vids I have seen of the kites there.

Being a dad came first for me this morning, but luck would have it that I would be watching my son score his first goal of the season about a mile from Long Pond. Post soccer session at Long Pond included Gary W. (thanks for the Groupme message!), Keith S., Ted B., and Eric M.
Upon arrival, the waves were breaking over the rip rap on the side…[Read more]
