Glad you had another great sesh, WD.
Looks like Saturday will be another great day, and again I’ll be out of action at a retreat in Rome. Alas…so far, still just 6 days all year…

Locally, I’m the only “long distance” windsurfer I know of. Have sailed 35-40 miles of course sailing on the St Lawrence, and gone ~5 miles upwind of Geneva on Seneca (on both S and on W winds). You have to be a little sick to want to do it!
In the ’90s, I did hear of sailing to Canada from Hamburg, or somewhere near there.
It’s not for the…[Read more]

That sunset was the most striking sunset I’ve seen in a long time. The photo is good, but the vivid contrast in colors was simply stunning, as was the 3-D texture of the clouds in the “foreground” (the ones high up overhead, with the reds and greys).
Sunday 10/8 was raging at Seneca, WNW so gusty started off in upper teens (after it switched to…[Read more]

Here’s hoping that this direct appeal to the Wind Gods – I admit, I’m a pagan wind worshipper – is effective!

Come on, somebody has to say it.
70s, 80s, day after day in September, and not a lick of breeze anywhere. Gotta be the worst damned year for board sports in the 25 years I’ve been doing this. Heck, the US has been getting plastered by hurricanes, and we can’t even get any meaningful remnants of them.
Geez, does this suck!!!

Excellent video from Robby on his new foiling setup…very different design than other efforts, which makes a WHOLE lot more sense to me: low aspect / high power delta shaped foil, purpose-designed board that doesn’t require moving back to the straps (allows straight to foiling from the sailing position), purpose-designed low aspect ratio sail…[Read more]

Hard as it may be to believe, yesterday was just day 2 for my 2017 season…and it wasn’t much to write about.
Seneca Bouy looked to be cooking early, upper teens, so I finished up chores and arrived at 1:00 to about 10-ish. A few foiling and big kites, but not much. I was a perfect longboard day…had I brought it. Looked to be a lot of kiters…[Read more]

1) Tie a figure-of-eight stopper knot in one end of your outhaul line. The reason to use a figure-of-eight rather than an overhand knot is that an overhand knot will get really really tight and be very difficult to untie (one almost never needs to untie this knot, but it’s good nautical practice to use proper knots). Also, a figure-0f-eight is…[Read more]

I’m looking for a home for an F2 All-Carbon Lightning, if you’re up for it Frankie. R I D I C U L O U S L Y L I G H T, there is not an ounce of water in it (much lighter than my Fanatic Mega Cat); CB is in good shape; mast track has been updated to a modern track (lost a couple of inches of excursion towards the nose); CB gaskets were replaced…[Read more]

I have to admit, I see foiling a windsurfer as an interesting thing in and of itself, but I don’t see it as a viable long-term idea for light wind windsurfing. To me, waves / swell are much of the fun, so for big lakes foiling takes that out; any lakes that develop significant weed burdens are out; have heard multiple stories and can see the risk…[Read more]

Hi Frankie
I don’t believe anyone foil windsurfs yet; several kiters are foiling.
I understand that Tom Hammerton, of Hot Sails Maui (now living in PA just south of Corning, NY), is designing a windsurfing foil.
Been an awful season for me, as work, moving, etc., have dramatically constrained my ability to get out. Only 1 time here in NY so…[Read more]

Like new, probably used ~6 times, there are NO scratches on the monofilm, no wear on fabric or stitching. Seriously, it’s like new except for very minor crinkles from storage. Works best on an Ezzy 400 skinny mast (with no extension). Fell out of my quiver when I switched to Hot Sails. It was in a friend’s garage in Pittsburgh and I picked it up…[Read more]

Local wind was bad, and my truck is broken down anyway. NY highway salt has had it’s way with too many parts hanging in the underbody. Probably will get it back after July 4, and many $1000s to replace lots of parts. Good to hear you all are having good sessions. I’m still at 1 here in NY (had 3 down in Hilton Head in May).

Cool pics.
I made the error of bringing a big board and a little board, but NOT the board I needed (117 Aero). So I was on the rainbow Freak (6.7) and 89L Kombat…could of used more board in the Montana-sized holes.

Doug is correct.
Floatation vests are not USCG approved, and if you were ever stopped by the CG it wouldn’t save you from a ticket. But it looks pretty good and I’ve never heard of any windsurfer being stopped. I have the same basic one and like it very much.
