Wow. Missed most of the day – it was going off ALL day – because of crises at work. Dang. An important meeting for Tuesday got canceled, which allowed me to pack up and head to the lake. A few windsurfers and kiters out on the west wall (Bill and I’m not sure whom else as we didn’t get close enough to identify).
Got to the park at abo…[Read more]

Bit of an unusual pattern this weekend, as a high pressure / cold front passed over (or is passing over as I write this), in a relatively “dry” nor’easter. Also not very strong compared to a “real” nor’easter.
The main consequence is that you’ll realize quickly that Thursday was the autumnal equinox and summer is OVER. You’ll likely need neoprene…[Read more]

Doug has your UJ, Scott. I gave it to him on Saturday so you don’t have to rely on a meet-up with me when we’re 2-1/2 hours apart. I’d hurry up and ask him about it though, as he was admiring how nice it was…

Well, I was pretty dialed on Saturday and didn’t spend much time in the water. But it looked quite clean to me, hardly any seaweed…much less any algae. I didn’t get in the water at the swim beach, though, so can’t speak for that site.
In prior years, the swim site has been closed, but I don’t think so this year (someone correct me?). And I…[Read more]

Similar on Saturday to last weekend, Sunday looking very iffy.
SAT: S winds, Fx to be low-to-mid teens across the area, so with a boost from Seneca’s long fetch I’d expect upper teens. Likely will turn on early and be much steadier in the AM, so I would favor getting there earlier than later. Bigger gusts probable in the PM, but recent experience…[Read more]

Good buddy of mine in Pittsburgh is selling a very, VERY, lightly used JP Super Sport 127. He got it because he caved-in the deck of his MADD 135, but shortly after getting it found a used MADD to replace the one he wore out. So this Super Sport is immaculate. Very fast and easy to ride board for light-to-moderate winds. Wants $500 for it. Heckuva…[Read more]

Scott, you left your UJ in my mast after using the 7.5. Hope you’ve got a spare for today!!
As to yesterday…
Had chores to do and saw it had turned on by 11:00. Got there about 12:20, saw a lone white sail…guess it was Doug. By the time I got out (6.7/117 Aero), Scott was out and we passed many times. Wind was a bit holey, but mostly…[Read more]

Finally.
Stormy day tomorrow, but with S and SW winds (depending on location). Clearing and drier air Sunday, with some real wind on Ontario.
SAT: Best bet is Erie, for SW around 20. Seneca should be moderate S (~15 with gusts). Storms are the unknown, but expect some squalls if not thunderstorms. Hopefully less rain than wind.
SUN: Best bet is…[Read more]

I would be remiss if I didn’t post this…
During one of the interregnums when the engine noise was gone, the announcer on the PA system was talking about all the attractions in the Finger Lakes region, and – with my friend Deb as my witness – he actually said WINDSURFING is an attraction here. Perhaps they could use some advocacy training to…[Read more]

The Indy Cars are freakin’ amazing. Being offspring of parents from the Terre Haute, IN, area, home of Tony Hulman (founder of the Indy 500), I’ve kind-of always wanted to see Indy-style car racing…the Indy 500 is a big deal to Hoosiers. Much of my Indiana family used to go to the Indy 500…[Read more]

Well, I said at the end of last year that somebody needs to take over this gig, because I’m not bringing any luck.
3-day weekend, warm summer days, and we get a big high pressure sittin’ on top of us.
SAT: Negligible chance of afternoon thermals on Erie / Ontario, but some chance.
SUN & MON: L&V
To satisfy my need for speed, I’m going to see…[Read more]

The Equipe was a great board. For me, raceboards make gusty conditions more interesting, because you can use the CB and beating straps to really drive upwind, and in the big gusts move the track back, CB up, and get in the back straps on a reach. Much better than schlogging/planing. There is not much worse than schlogging, and longboards are the…[Read more]
