Tom and Richard, there are always wings out when the wind blows. It be good to come to one of the sites and talk directly to the guys. I windsurf foil and don’t wing but have tried it.
Four major local sites that the Rochester wingers and other sailors sail are: WNW to NE winds, Durand Beach and Montana Beach (Seabreeze Pier at Irondeqouit…[Read more]

Without the luxury of demoing different boards due to no local dealer support research seems to be our only hope to match board designs to local sailing conditions. One search on the subject found this enlightening thread where one sailor asks the right questions we all want to…[Read more]

Here is the final product, sanded, painted and epoxied in place. I used a thickened epoxy to glue it on. I like the way it turned out!

Scott started the topic Last Day of Summer November 22nd! in the forum General Windsports Discussion 4 years ago
Another November surprise for us windsurfers! Pre-frontal southerly winds ramped up big time at Long Pond. And the turn out for what is probably the last warm sailing session was equally impressive.
The area temperatures were in the mid sixties and the winds were forecasted to be gusty and into the thirties. And in fact that’s pretty much what…[Read more]

Recently I noticed a suspicious crack in the nose of my 86 liter Goya short board. With the cold weather approaching and lots of covid downtime I inspected the crack a bit closer and found that indeed I had crushed the nose at some point. So I broke out my dremel tool and proceeded to repair it. After routing out the wet foam and broken…[Read more]

Well thought I’d check in with my favorite blog with a fresh post…What makes a session the best ever? I’m not sure, but for me it’s a whole host of elements rolled into one. It’s windsurfing when you shouldn’t be windsurfing. Like in winter! But without the suffering, i.e. frostbite etc. And then there is the camaraderie, frankly it’s always…[Read more]

Hope you get some. Traveling out of town…no sailing for me. Never fails. Leave town and the wind blows! EVERY TIME! Make sure to stop at Red Dove for beer and eats after sailing. A favorite spot of locals.

Like I said, that was windsurfing candy! And it was great sailing into the dark with you guys. Slamming gibes at full speed in the flat water by the west end break wall was exhilarating all while the sun was dropping below the hillside. As I sailed I back and forth a quick glance toward shores also revealed a micro brew pub at one end, Young Lion…[Read more]

The forecast called for an early day on Wednesday at Seneca Lake. Much like the one we had a couple weeks ago. But arriving at Seneca early I was disappointed to find the the wind had already come off its peak.
The lone sailor, Mark, was rigging a 12m kite and Eric P. and I started rigging 6.3’s on large boards. By the time we got our sails…[Read more]

Geoff, this is great stuff! Very valuable information. I could read this technical windsurfing tuning stuff all day long. Hope you write more for us.
I’ve read most of Eric’s technical articles on his blog and found it very helpful. I have been playing with my boom height adjustments this year and can relate to your observations. Thanks!

Geoff, I was trying to get this post past the admin., should have elaborated more about the parallel I though I saw in this article about wide skis hurting your knees. In short, the more upright stance wide skis skiers often adopt and the upright stance I often find myself using on foil make the knee less able to withstand some the loads placed on…[Read more]

A long awaited Dougie post! Yay! That was sooo much fun. The wind was steady everywhere so I disappeared over the horizon for a bit! You know how your mind is constantly narrating a story when you alone on your board….well at one point Dora the Explorer was singing “OH CANADA!”
Love your tracking app and the way it is color coded to your speed,…[Read more]

This article minus some great graphics is about wide skis and your knees, in short how the upright stance adopted by the wide skiing technique hurts your knees. I think there is a parallel here regarding windsurf foiling based on my limited experience and knee pain I’ve experienced. So enjoy the read and maybe Dr. Geoff will chime in on this…[Read more]

Just spoke with Steve Howie of Canandaigua Sailboard Shop and he tells me that his business will soon be sold. No specific yet but a sale of all things will be in the near future. This is very sad news! Steve had been there for most of us in our early days of learning to sail and a go to shop for great gear. Certainly an end of an era. He is not…[Read more]
