Looks like a cool toy. Would love to see it in action. Post on Groupme next time you take it out! I’ve seen videos and would love to see it in action. I’ve heard Bay Creek in Roch. is getting a demo wing, a Naish I think.

Nooo! Great to see you Big E! Wish I’d checked your site for this forecast. I often just wing it. In fact it was only because of a case of insomnia that I got up early and hit the beach. When I got to Durand it was 5.3-5.7, by the time I posted it was 6.1. I tried that and it dropped more. So I put up the 6.5 Lion on the Goya Free Race (which…[Read more]

Awesome Eric ! Already watched one and can’t wait to watch them all. Love your presentation skills and your willingness to share your knowledge. I’ve always been frustrated by picking boards for our local conditions. I know you have sailed our Rochester area sites and you have to admit they are different than Erie. We get tons of chops. I’d like…[Read more]

I just checked the garage. I have an old carbon boom that I refurbished a while ago and don’t use. It’s small should cover 160. I can send it with Keaton and you can take a look. Try it and if you want it $50.

Brian, I’m not a kiter either but I see plenty of them! Geez they’re everwhere! lol
Yes, I couldn’t believe the beach at Durand either. A couple of us had a theory that kites might be able to launch just a hundred yards east at the dip in the terrain but not sure. Most kiters are still able to launch at Montana at the Seabreeze Pier on the west…[Read more]

Thanks guys! When I have a good day, I’m unbearable with enthusiasm. I’m convinced it’s the stoke hormones talking and sometimes embarrassingly shows up here! Jammed my knee during my foil session and recovering from quadriceps tendonitis at the knee cap (taking prescription steroids, yikes). Earning points at home now.
It’s sad we don’t have…[Read more]

As sometimes happens with thermals, the next day after a thermal condition often produces similar conditions. I monitored the wind on the bay the day after this post and sure enough with winds only ten mph at Montana Beach, I was able to ride my foil in the thermal on south Irondequoit Bay. It didn’t look as strong as the day before so I put up a…[Read more]

South Irondequoit Bay Venturi-Thermal
For almost twenty years I’ve driven down Empire Blvd. in Rochester, past Irondequoit Bay to my home in Penfield. Some days I notice a thermal blowing on the bay, white caps and flags ripping in the wind. The “Open For Business” pennants at the Bay Creek paddle shop shouting out the wind strength. And every…[Read more]

I’m not surprised that big money is playing a role in this. That being said too much water released affects both upstream and downstream cities on the St. Lawrence negatively. Lower too much and water intake for upstream cities is affected and the released water floods the Montreal region.
It’s like predicting the weather but worst when it comes…[Read more]

I’ve upgraded in size to a larger Hydra so I’m selling this barely used windsurfer Ezzy foil sail. Hydra’s are popular foil sails and it’s hard to find used ones. This one’s a steal at $550!
The Hydra features the latest in foil sail design, the low aspect sail has a large range and is less sensitive to gusty wind conditions like we have in WNY…[Read more]

(starting to feel like my own personal blog..)
The phone rang early on Thursday, the voice somewhat familar…OMG it’s Joe! He’s back! “Where we sailing? Looks like Seneca…OK see you there!”. The iwindsurf forecast looked awesome, a hard blow of prefrontal wind out of the south east AND 70 degree temperatures! A great Seneca Lake forecast.

I knew that windsurf foiling had the potential to open up new opportunities and this session today was a real eye opener.
It was cool today with temperatures around 50 Degrees and winds variable 13-19 mph out of the NE. After and amusing meeting with a gentleman coming out of the restrooms with a fishing pole in hand and me asking how the fishing…[Read more]

Just heard that Don Delaney is home recovering from numerous injuries resulting from a mishap while kiting at Montana Beach. Wow, I didn’t realize that was your first session of the season, Doug! You’ve lost weight! No wonder you’re so fast! Yes, I remember that one pass where Corey and I were on the same rip. I was trying to test the foil speed out and compare my speed to his. Corey was definitely faster, I was on my 5.5 Hydra Ezzy and he on a 6.5 Ezzy. He was dialed…[Read more]

What a crazy day! I must have been sailing in the same winds. That WS sailor is Corey Dunn, somewhat new to the group. Seems to like cold weather, sailed with him last year in December at Daigua.

Mayhem and Mania at Daigua
Early Spring weather continued much like the Winter with wild changes in temperatures and wind. The weekend warm-up and rain melted the snow and crust on the local ice and the night-time freeze promised some hard surface sailing. Then I got the call.
My fellow ice boat friend, Dave, called and said Kershaw Park at…[Read more]

Looks like another convert to the winter scene. The ponds can get gusty but is a fun spot to sail. Haven’t been there in a while. I was thinking it might be John Cimbalo but he usually sails a trike with a windsurf sail on it. Almost sounds like old school skate setup like back in the 80’s. I made one and still have it. Welcome to group! Lots of…[Read more]
